Mindset in Motion: Lessons from Real Estate

February 28, 2025

Real estate has been my classroom for three decades. Here are some of the most important lessons it's taught me.

The market is always teaching you something. Whether it's up or down, fast or slow, competitive or quiet — every market condition has something to show you about human behavior, about patience, about the relationship between value and fear.

Relationships compound. Every relationship you invest in — with clients, colleagues, referral partners — compounds over time in ways you can't fully anticipate. The connection you make today becomes the referral five years from now, the collaborator on a deal you couldn't have handled alone, the friend who calls when you most need to talk.

Your reputation is your real asset. In a commission-based business, it's tempting to focus on the transaction. But the agents I've watched build lasting careers are the ones who focused on the relationship. The transaction is temporary. The reputation is permanent.

Resilience is a skill. It's not something you have or don't have — it's something you practice. Every difficult deal, every difficult client, every difficult market is an opportunity to practice it.

What has your work taught you that no classroom could?
